eFellow - Postdoctoral Ressearcher
The new Engineering Postdoctoral Fellowship, known as the eFellows program, places early-career PhDs in engineering fields in university research postdoctoral fellowships at host institutions nationwide. This program is unique because it was designed to integrate experiential learning curricula so that in addition to hands-on academic research with a faculty advisor, each fellowship cohort will participate in centralized professional development and mentoring activities designed to prepare them for future research careers.

The eFellows program will provide postdoctoral researchers with a salary of $75,000 per year, for two years. Upon selection, ASEE will issue subawards to host institutions, to cover salary, benefits and up to $3,000 for travel expenses per fellow.

Fringe benefits for the fellow are requested at the host institutionís applicable rate for postdoctoral researchers, capped at the rate of 26%.

Indirect Costs/Facilities and Administrative costs are charged as a percentage of the modified total direct costs of the host institution, capped at a rate of 35%.

The goal of the eFellows program is to encourage recent engineering PhD graduates to persist in research career paths despite the current economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The eFellows program will provide rich postdoctoral experiences that will prepare participants for successful research careers in academia or industry while also serving as an employment bridge during a time of hiring freezes and job market uncertainty, helping to retain fellows who might otherwise leave the engineering research career pathway.

The eFellows application for the second cohort is expected to open in May 2022 with award announcements to-be-issued in August, and fellowship appointments starting in the Fall. We encourage individuals from groups historically underrepresented in engineering and faculty advisors at minority serving institutions to consider the eFellows program.
Qualifications & Requirements
Must be pursuing research in an area under the umbrella of the NSF Engineering Directorate.

Must have completed their PhD (or up to a second postdoc) between 1/1/2019-08/31/2022.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Must select a faculty advisor that is tenured or a tenure-track faculty employed at a U.S. academic institution; the selected advisor may not be the applicant's PhD advisor or current/most recent postdoc advisor.

Must complete their fellowship at a U.S. institution.

Must coordinate with a faculty postdoc advisor to apply as a pair, developing the application in a collaborative manner (applicants may submit up to two applications but can only be awarded one of them).
