Job Description
OPO, Surgical Recovery Specialist
The OPO Surgical Recovery Specialist accounts for the surgical recovery of deceased donor organs for transplantation and research

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Serves as the primary procurement surgeon for abdominal organs in assigned donor cases.

2. In conjunction with the Medical Director assumes ultimate responsibility for donor management and the process of donor recovery.

3. Works with LAORA staff to ensure the optimal medical care of the donor, facilitates timely progress to recovery, and resolves any disagreements among recovery teams, including interpretation of LAORA clinical and UNOS policies.

4. Participate in daily activity report calls and the weekly organ donor clinical case reviews to identify improvement opportunities.

5. Documents case participation and judgments in the LAORA electronic medical record.

6. Advises staff regarding the safety and suitability of don or organs and communicates with transplant centers as necessary to discuss potential issues in organ offers

7. Develops competence in the extirpation and intraoperative assessment of abdominal organs for clinical transplantation.

8. Collaborates with the Executive Director and the Senior Leadership Team to develop and achieve performance goals and objectives.

9. Participates in education programs as needed.

10. Collaborates with LAORA’s Clinical trainer to develop and maintain clinical capabilities of staff, including oversight of the trainees.

11. Maintains organ preservation lab and restocks equipment, supplies, solutions, and other inventory as needed; monitors the rotation of stock supplies as needed.

12. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field Certification and Licensing
Be a graduate of an allopathic international medical school (IMG) or equivalent education.
BLS, ACLS
Must be qualified for inclusion in the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations Credentials Information Network (ACIN).
Five years of relevant work experience
