The Radiation Control department has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Medical Physicist Assistant 3 to work at the Medical Campus.
The Medical Physicist Assistant 3 performs tasks in support of a Qualified Medical Physicist
(QMP) in the professional practice of clinical medical physics within the radiotherapy clinic. The general responsibilities of the MPA includes performing routine machine and patient specific quality assurance (QA), participation in development and implementation of new technology and processes, and support in the acceptance testing and commissioning of new treatment machine.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Reviews adherence to established radiation safety protocols and explores possibilities for improvements. Performs patient specific QA measurements following established procedures by a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP). Does initial investigation of various radiation safety incidents
. Collects performance data on radiation producing equipment for QMP review. Identifies areas of weakness in existing program areas and recommends corrections to QMP. At the direction of a QMP responds to client requests for on-site support. Assists with i
lementation of new therapeutic treatment procedures. Assists QMP in developing training materials for new technology and processes. Assists QMP in training other staff and faculty on specific technology and processes. Identifies and collects necessary supporting documentation to assist a QMP in preparing regulatory communications. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

9;s degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Minimum 5 year of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:<
Skill in collecting, organizing and analyzing data.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Possess an understanding of clinical radiation therapy, clinical physics and/or dosimetry
Ability to work flexible hours as needed, especially late night shifts to conduct patient specific quality assurance.
Ability to manage time and prioritize workflow.
Technical problem solving.
Excellent computer skills relating to operational software systems/networking
Department Specific Functions
Performs patient specific QA measurements following established procedures by QMP.
Performs measurements in phantom using film, ionization chambers, portal dosimetry for the purpose of treatment pl
Performs special in-vivo dosimetry measurements using OSLD or diodes. Performs weekly and monthly QA checks under direct supervision of a QMP. This includes assisting with tests as part of annual machine calibrations and/or annual simulator reviews.
Assists with implementation of new therapeutic treatment procedures. Follows instructions of a QMPon gathering of specific commissioning data and measurements for treatment machines.
Follows instructions of a QMP on evaluation and verification of specific functions for a particular technology.
Performs validation measurements for new technology and processes Performs radiation surveys under the supervision of a QMP
Assists QMP in developing, validating, and documenting tests and QA procedures for new technology and processes
Assists QMP in developing training materials for new technology and processes.
ts QMP in training other staff and faculty on specific technology and processes.
Management of QA equipment
Assists in minor equipment repairs and oversees vendor repair actions, with appropriate training
Assists in equipment calibration, including sending equipment for ADCL calibration
Adheres to all Physics QA procedures and policies.
Participates in clinical physics research and development projects under the supervision of Chief of Medical Physics.
