Communications Manager, Research Support (Human Genomics)
About This Position

The John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics (HIHG) at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a full time Communications Manager, Research Support.
The Communications Manager, Research Support provides communications, web support, and research support for the John P. Hussman Institute of Human Genetics (HIHG) and the Dr. John T. Macdonald Department of Human Genetics (DHG). The incumbent will have experience in communications, marketing, public relations, grant submissions, and research support. The Manager, Research Support will report to Jose Guillermo Melo, MSPH to coordinate communications, administrative, and grant submission needs for the All of Us Research Project grant (AoURP).

Develops program and lead UM wide communications and marketing activities related to AoURP, and liaising with UM-Med/Gables communication departments.

Maintains communication with other offices, departments, and institutions to coordinate program business and accomplish program objectives, to include interfacing with external organizations as appropriate to ensure cooperative efforts are enhanced and available
resources are utilized. Developing AoURP-UM specific assets to target our main population.

Manages compliance issues related to the research grant and contracts providing information on the requirements and deadlines for deliverables and work performed. Responsible for obtaining necessary IRB approvals and maintaining communication with IRB and/or appropriate offices.

Assists in outreach to community by carrying out activities for raising awareness, engaging, recruiting and retaining AoURP participants (health fairs, ethnic/national festivals, tables at recruitment sites and food markets, etc).

Monitors and ensures good data acquisition and data management processes. Analysis and prepare participants enrollment reports/data in relation to communication efforts and in data aggregation for engagement efforts in precision medicine.

Develops new strategies for social media marketing. Develop strategies to highlight research accomplishments, and to create collateral materials such as flyers, brochures, posters, and banners. Work with media (TV, radio, etc) for PR, awareness & recruitment.

Assists in publications and manuscript preparation including journal article submissions. Formats manuscripts, references, tables, and figures to adhere to journal requirements. Assists in preparation of grant writing applications. Develops budget justifications, updating personnel documentation such as CV’s, other support documents, and Biosketches. Ensures grant applications are complete. Ensures that all documents are completed by deadlines.

Acts as a liaison to work with other teams to develop and manage participants’ communications (participants’ cards, letters, and reminders).

Develops, updates, and maintains websites on a daily basis. Provides guidance to faculty and staff members on website standards, style, and design. Copyedits text for websites submitted by faculty and staff members.

Keeps current on the software and technology needed for the websites, as well as the medical school’s marketing and communication policies. Handling SEEC (UM plus consortium level) communication platforms (websites, social media).

Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree in a biological science or health discipline

Three years of relevant experience in communications, marketing and outreach as well as with website development

Knowledge of business and management principles.

Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
