Program Coordinator, Career Advisor


Basic Function: This position coordinates CAPX career-related programming for SAIC students and alumni in collaboration with members of the CAPX team. Under the supervision of the Dean of CAPX, the Program Coordinator coordinates the CAPX events calendar and oversees the individual marketing plans of each program. They will manage all career-related program logistics throughout the planning process, during the event, and post-event.

In addition to their administrative duties, the Program Coordinator advises current students and alumni in-person and virtually on career-related topics including, but not limited to career skills, resume and portfolio critiques, internship and job search strategies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Programming

Manage all CAPX programs, workshops, and events.
Partner with CAPX Director on design and objectives of career education and employer relations programs.
Liaise with the Director of CAPX to develop roster of alumni and industry candidates for program participation – both as speakers and attendees.
Partner with SAIC department heads and faculty to involve both students and faculty as program participants.
Engage in active outreach to SAIC faculty for program suggestions, guest speaker contacts, and to enhance student attendance.
Key contact for all guest speakers, arranging invitations, on-site hosting, and post-event acknowledgments from SAIC leadership when appropriate.
Manage all virtual program logistics with an extensive knowledge of Zoom and other current virtual platforms - as well as on-site logistics, including space, catering, setup, registration, and breakdown, as well as supervising event staffing.

B. Communication

Manage event registration in the online platform, Handshake, and work with relevant partners and CAPX staff to ensure effective event marketing and attendance.
Develop outreach strategies and distribute marketing materials (print, online, social media) for CAPX events and career-related topics.
Manage the documenting of all CAPX events with articles, photographs, and videos, for use on the SAIC website (to attract prospective students), in marketing collateral (to attract future speakers and potential donors), in assessment documents, and for additional SAIC and CAPX use.
Manage contracts and payment for all event-related expenses, working with the CAPX assistant director to ensure timely processing. Monitor program-related budget, and retain records for current and future budget planning.
Create, write, edit, organize, and curate content for digital marketing of CAPX programming, including website events page, social media and electronic signage.

C. Career Advising

Advise current students and alumni on career-related topics including, but not limited to career decisions, networking skills, resume and portfolio critiques, and internship and job search strategies in order to prepare students for life after art school.
Provide career education in multiple formats – individual appointments, drop-in hours, and classroom visits.

D. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Two years’ experience in a related professional work setting, such as career services, human resources, student affairs, academic affairs, or arts administration.

Background as an artist/designer, or demonstrated appreciation for the arts and the development of student artists.

Knowledgeable about the working world or artists, designers, writers and scholars, their required/recommended career preparation, and potential paths to achieve professional goals.

Experience in event management, higher education, or career services preferred.

SKILLS

Proficient with MS Office (Power-Point, Word, Excel), Adobe Creative Cloud, and social media platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Twitter, and Facebook. Understanding of web-based platforms.

Demonstrated organizational abilities and strong written and verbal communication/public speaking skills.

Able to prioritize and balance a number of projects simultaneously, while maintaining a high quality of work in a fast-paced environment.

Entrepreneurial, collaborative style, with excellent human relations skills. Able to build relationships with students, faculty, employers, alumni, and colleagues.

This position requires some evening and weekend availability.
