The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking an experienced grants manager to manage the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Grant and other grants that provide international trade assistance to Virginia businesses.
This position manages multiple concurrent STEP Grants, each providing approximately $200K in export development reimbursements to Virginia businesses. The Grants Manager will also identify, apply for, and manage additional grants to help Virginia companies grow their international sales.
This position is part of VEDP’s International Trade division, which is recognized as the leading state international trade development program in the U.S. The International Trade division provides a range of resources such as customized market research, international business meetings, and programs to support Virginia exporters.
VEDP was created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1995 to encourage, stimulate and support development and expansion of the Commonwealth’s economy. Like the special Commonwealth that it serves, VEDP has long been regarded as among the best in the country.
Work directly with Virginia businesses, in collaboration with colleagues, to advise businesses on how to utilize grant resources
Evaluate and approve applications from participating companies to confirm they meet grant program requirements
Manage a budget of approximately $200K per grant by tracking and forecasting expenses and matching funds each month
Review reimbursement requests from grant participants and approve reimbursement payments according to VEDP guidelines
Manage grant reporting by gathering data from participating businesses, calculating results, and reporting regularly on grant performance
Develop and submit a proposal for the STEP Grant each year
Identify new sources of grant funding, apply for grants, and manage new grants to help Virginia business grow international sales
Develop and maintain grant documentation and materials including application forms, reimbursement forms, and program guidelines
Interpret grant guidelines and implement strategies to improve grant management and the results achieved by participating businesses
Stay up to date on international business practices and serve as a subject matter expert to advise colleagues and businesses on how to utilize grant resources
Support international trade mission delegations by working with international consultants to deliver successful events for participating businesses
Demonstrated ability to engage in effective working relationships with colleagues, business leaders, and partner organizations
Demonstrated ability to proactively and independently manage multiple priorities
Ability to navigate and track changing requirements
Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to analyze data from multiple sources and calculate performance results
Enjoys providing excellent service to internal and external customers and meeting deadlines
Significant experience managing grants, writing grant proposals, maintaining grant records, and reporting on grant results
Significant experience managing programs or complex projects
Experience with budget tracking, reporting, and recordkeeping for grants, programs, or projects
Knowledge of international business practices, foreign customs, and cultures
Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Salesforce and Adobe Acrobat is a plus
Undergraduate degree in business administration, marketing, international affairs, or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred
A valid driver’s license and passport are required
