Job Description
Associate Director, Curriculum and Outreach
The Associate Director for Curriculum and Outreach manages the entire curriculum of over 600 Honors courses serving upwards of 2,300 undergraduates each year on the Twin Cities Campus. Most importantly, the associate director leads the strategic and creative aspects of envisioning an Honors curriculum.

The Associate Director leads recruitment efforts in collaboration with the Office of Admissions for first-year students and with other offices across campus for current students. This position pays particular attention to the recruitment and enrollment of students underserved in higher education with a focus on BIPOC and first-generation students.

Essential Job Functions

Manage University Honors Program Curriculum: (65%)
● Manage the campus-wide University Honors Program curriculum.
● Coordinate campus-wide departmental honors courses.
● Establish strong working relationships with partners outside of the University Honors Program including undergraduate colleges, faculty and departments which offer honors courses, the Office of Undergraduate Education, Academic Support Resources, President’s Emerging Scholars Program, Residential Life, and Northrop Memorial Auditorium.
● Recruit faculty from diverse disciplines to teach Honors seminars and departmental Honors courses.
● Develop honors course proposals, in partnership with faculty, including for Liberal Education and Writing Intensive requirements.
● Advance UHP’s curricular commitment to engaging students in diversity and social justice topics via honors seminars. Sample current seminar titles include: Race: Social Justice and Health, The History of Slavery through Literature and Film, and Women’s Reproduction: History, Politics, and the Health-Care System
● Coordinate a faculty committee to review honors seminar and course proposals.
● Provide instructional support for honors seminars.
● Identify gaps in disciplinary offerings to UHP students and collaborate with those units to develop new honors seminars and departmental honors courses.
● Maintain accurate and current honors course offerings for students by entering, monitoring, and updating courses in the University’s electronic course authorization system (or ECAS).
● Ensure the UHP Curriculum is transparent for students through regular review and updates to the requirements in the University’s Program and Curriculum Approval System (or PCAS).
● Manage honors course enrollment.
● Coordinate all communications to staff and students about current and future courses.
● Oversee the regular curricular and Honors-thesis-related communications with over 130 undergraduate programs.

Recruitment and Scholarships (20%)
● Collaborate with the Office of Admissions on outreach and recruitment efforts to prospective first year students and their families.
● Organize UHP’s Admitted Honors Students of Color Reception for students and families each spring term.
● Develop and implement an equitable, inclusive strategy to attract and retain a diverse population of students from a variety of backgrounds.
● Partner with the Office of Admissions regarding new student scholarship eligibility and compliance.
● Mentor students involved in the UHP Multicultural Student Network.
● Increase collaboration with the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence, the President's Emerging Scholars Program, the Martin Luther King Program and others in promoting the program and with recruitment efforts.

Team Management: (15%)
● Provide leadership for University Honors Program staff.
● Provide Direct supervision for 3 full time staff.
● Manage the processes and activities of the team to include determining workload, distribution of work and adjustments as needed.
● Identify and implement performance standards and expectations for staff.
● Build and develop an effective team.
● Seek, evaluate, and implement staff input.
● Train and instruct staff thoroughly.
● Support and promote staff development.
● Participate in the development of UHP’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion strategic plan in 2021-2022.

Qualifications & Requirements
Required Qualifications
● BA/BS degree with at least six years of relevant post-degree experience, OR an advanced degree with at least four years of relevant post-degree experience.
● At least four years of experience with progressively increasing responsibility
● Supervisory experience
● Demonstrated attention to detail
● Ability to effectively communicate with multiple stakeholders and with diverse groups including race, class, and culture

Preferred Qualifications
● Excellent organizational and time management skills.
● Demonstrated ability to work across units to resolve issues.
● Experience with the University of Minnesota curricular maintenance systems including ECAS, PCAS, APAS, and PeopleSoft
