Call to Action for Black Mentors - #FLOODTHEGATES BHM Campaign

Posted By: Tunji Oki on February 01, 2023 #Gatekeeping is defined as the activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something valuable. There is a specific tendency at times to intentionally or unintentionally hoard information that could be beneficial to others. This Black History Month, I am calling out an open challenge called #floodthegates, where Black men are agreeing to offer 1:1 #mentoring with high school, college, grad school, early career, even mid career Black men and share the tricks and the trades we’ve learned in navigating corporate America, financial literacy, or really anything that we wish we knew growing up that could benefit someone else (not being a gatekeeper of knowledge). If you want to take on this challenge for yourself and your network or focus on a different demographic for BHM (Black women as an example) all I ask is that you use the hashtag stated above. I am tagging some brothers who have agreed to be mentors from my network. If you want to be mentored, please feel free to reach out to any of these brothers to schedule time.
