How Online Classes Add Convenience for Stressed Students
Posted By: Brooke Chaplan on June 02, 2022 Students around the world often undergo immense pressure when it comes to balancing academic responsibilities. Stress levels are higher than ever due to a number of factors, including COVID-19 and the economic uncertainty of the world. Many people are able to manage their anxiety levels through self-calming strategies like enjoying nature and exercise. College students, however, face the pressures of going to campus each week to take classes and complete assignments. Fortunately, more universities are offering online classes that are often more convenient and comfortable for students experiencing high stress levels. Flexible SchedulingOnline classes are sometimes asynchronous, meaning that students can log on and do coursework anytime during the week as long as they submit assignments on time. The ability to work on courses any time of day or night removes stress from trying to keep up with a hectic schedule and battle public traffic. Choosing preferred times to work on class activities creates a more relaxing approach to the course. Less Direct InteractionSome online classes have virtual meetings at specific times each week. Since the format is distance learning, stressed students can participate from home in comfortable clothes and surroundings. Many online courses do not use videoconferencing except on a one-to-one basis upon a student’s request. Students struggling with anxiety don't have to interact with the other students much if at all. Comfort and ConvenienceEnrolling in an online class lets anxious students study a difficult subject from the privacy and comfort of home. They can use a familiar desk and a cozy workspace to tackle the course readings and assignments. Comfortable clothing, a friendly pet, favorite music, and a relaxing snack add to the ambiance of a preferred study area where they won't be distracted by other students or campus activities. If a disruption occurs, students can take care of it and resume their coursework a little later. Missing class, however, can cost attendance points that may impact the course grade. Reduced Class PressureCollege courses like online medical coding classes require maximum attention and effort. The option of taking these courses online can help to relieve pressure when students have time to review past lessons or look up related concepts and new terminology. Medical coding is an important area of study that requires dedicated concentration. Stressed students who study online from home have the opportunity to work at their own pace in a supportive environment with minimal distractions. Students who feel stressed, pressured, or anxious may benefit from taking online classes, especially those that are particularly challenging. Ask about online course sections of classes that you would feel better taking at home. If you enjoyed this article, Join HBCU CONNECT today for similar content and opportunities via email! |
