What Are the Benefits of Online High School for Struggling Teens?
Posted By: Hannah Whittenly on July 09, 2021 |
Over the course of the year 2020, many students across the nation were forced to switch to online learning. Much of the news covering this new way of learning was usually negative as some students were reporting to be falling behind on their studies. However, this time also showed how well high school students who normally struggled were actually thriving for the first time. So, is online high school a good route to take from now on? Read on to learn the many benefits that struggling teens will receive by switching to an online high school.
Students Reside within a Safe Environment
One of the most common issues that struggling teens report having within a traditional school setting is either being the **** of bullying or simply not feeling confident being around other, often smarter, students. This, of course, can take a heavy toll on a student's emotions, and thus grades begin to suffer. Online high school offers students the chance to learn within a safe environment where they are encouraged by teachers and at the same time know that they are safe from any threats.
Reduction in Distractions
Oftentimes, it is not that the student does not understand the material but rather that they are being distracted by everything that goes on within a large classroom. Shouting, laughter, and talking to friends can quickly deteriorate a student's ability to pay attention and grasp the content of the lesson. When they enter an online classroom, the focus is solely on the teacher and the lesson that they are covering.
A common concern from parents regarding switching their teens to this style of learning is that if they don't understand the material within a traditional classroom, what's the difference between them going online and staying where they are. Parents will be happy to know that many online high school classes can actually be altered to help your teen learn in the way they are best able to learn. This, of course, is not possible within a traditional classroom where teachers need to make lessons as universal as possible to ensure that everyone receives the same information.
Having your teen suddenly switch to an online school setting can be a daunting challenge for both yourself and your son/daughter. It is this reason why parents are highly encouraged to delve deeper into online high school in order to obtain further information on the benefits of this form of education.
