The Hazardous Materials Coordinator responsible for supervising and overseeing the work of Drum Storage and Chemical Services teams at the Richmond Technology Center (RTC), a major laboratory facility located in Richmond, CA. The Drum Storage team provides storage, delivery, and stocking of hazardous materials used in RTC research labs. The Chemical Services team provides multiple chemical management services for RTC labs, including operating chemical stockrooms, managing procurement of site chemicals, delivering chemicals to labs, and managing a chemical re-use programKey Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Team Operations
Oversees daily operations for the Drum Storage and Chemical Services teams which focus on the management, handling and delivery of hazardous materials for Richmond Technology Center laboratories. Prioritizes and assigns work to 4 employees and several contract personnel. Evaluates manpower and coordinates work in daily operations. Develops and implements strategies to improve team efficiency
Responsible for maintaining complex database applications required for customer service requests and team operations. Primary contact for application troubleshooting and customer issues. Determines new features needed to improve functionality and customer service and works with vendor to implement. Trains customers on proper use.
Works with refinery engineers and plant personnel to develop safe sampling protocols for non-routine sampling jobs involving hazardous materials. Plans and directly oversees all non-routine work which has significant hazardous materials safety risks.
Evaluates industrial equipment used in team operations (forklifts, flatbed trucks, electric carts, and specialty materials handling equipment). Meets with vendors to identify specifications and determine cost effective equipment solutions to drum storage procedures. Oversees maintenance program of equipment
Responsible for evaluating and managing $1.5 MM combined operating budgets for Drum Storage and Chemical Services teams. Oversees administration of contracts for vendor services.
Training and Safety
Writes and updates standard operating procedures (SOP) and job safety analyses (JSA) for safety-sensitive team work processes involving industrial equipment and hazardous materials.
Develops and provides training in safe operating procedures. Trains team personnel in safe work procedures. Monitors team work activity to ensure safe operations.
Responsible for ensuring team personnel understand and follow safety and environmental compliance regulations and associated procedures and company policies
Leadership and Supervision
Performs PMP for 4 employees in Drum Storage team, and represents employees in annual ranking and salary administration process
Analyzes workforce requirements and hires staff to meet changing job requirements and customer needs. Writes requirements for job postings, organizes selection committees, and evaluates, selects and hires candidate. Hires and provides work direction to contractors and provides job performance feedback to contracting company
Customer Support
Acts as primary liaison with site customers regarding team business and new service needs. Develops strategies for improving service. Resolves issues related to customer service
